I finally started my daughter’s mermaid costume after lots of mental gymnastics thinking about how to get started. I’m not going to give it all away, but you can see the beginning here:
And a little of the inspiration here:
I’m also thinking about how I can keep a mermaid warm during colder Halloween temperatures. Hmm….

It is going to be incredibly cute! Can hardly wait to see it finished!
You need to make the plans available to us not so clever and creative folks!
I am besotted with that basket of cardboard scales. And incredibly curious about the equilateral-triangle trio of holes poked in each. Why three? Why equilateral triangle? Does she have a Math secret or engineering theory about equal pressure or something fabulous like that? I can’t sleep! I must know! Argh!
I can’t give away all my secrets! I’m actually hoping to develop this costume into a PDF pattern and tutorial for sale, so I can only give you selected glimpses of this creation… Of course I will be looking for pattern testers…
That looks like it will be gorgeous. I can’t wait to see it finished, I may even attempt it for next year as I have one grand daughter who loves the Little Mermaid.
i can not wait to see the final project!
I love it! Mermaids are always what I wanted to be when I was little, but I never found a scaly enough costume – This one looks like it’s going to be fabulous! Maybe some sort of seaweed shrug to keep her mermaid shoulders warm?
A seaweed shrug- great idea!
